Dietbet 4 Rules

    Weigh-Ins

  • Initial Weigh-Ins. Initial weigh-ins establish a player’s official starting weight. The initial weigh-in may be submitted starting from 48 hours before a dietbet begins up until 14 days into the game. Players joining late do not get extra time at the end. Note: weights are never revealed without a player’s explicit permission, except privately and confidentially to the DietBetter Referees.
  • Final Weigh-Ins (Or "Weigh-Out"). A final weigh-in may be submitted for 48 hours starting from midnight PST of the dietbet’s last day. At the end of the 48 hour window, weigh-ins can no longer be submitted and you cannot qualify to win. If your final weigh-in isn’t approved by our Referees, you will have 12 hours to re-submit your weigh-in with a new set of photos.
  • Unofficial Weigh-Ins. Players can update their weight between the initial and final weigh-ins without needing photo verification from a DietBetter Referee. DietBet recommends updating your weight every 4 days. Only official weigh-ins will be used to determine winners.
  • Photo-Based Proof. With official weigh-ins, players submit two digital photos of themselves on a scale for review and approval by DietBetter’s Referees. The first of the two photos must be a head-to-toe shot of the player standing on a scale in Airport Security Attire. The second must be a close-up of the player’s weight, as indicated by the scale, with a piece of paper in the shot showing the word-of-the-day. The word-of-the-day will be distributed by DietBetter at the time of the weigh-in and serves as an official timestamp (i.e., to ensure the photo was not taken at a different time).
  • Auditing. DietBetter uses random checks and algorithms to detect unusual activity within a game or across games and employs an auditing system where some players may be required to submit extra proof of their weight loss using a video weigh-in. If you are flagged by our system for an audit, you will be required to submit a video weigh-in for all future verified weigh-ins until the flag is removed by one of our Referees Failure to comply with our audit requirements will result in disqualification and forfeiture of your accumulated winnings and any pending bets. You may also be banned from playing again and subject to other penalties. We have a zero-tolerance policy on cheating.
  • Dress Code. Weigh-in dress code is Airport Security Attire, as defined in the “Definitions” section. In addition, players must wear substantially equivalent clothing for their official weigh-in and weigh-out. Note: Referees review weigh-in and weigh-out photos side by side to ensure compliance.
  • Scales. The same scale should be used for official weigh-ins, whenever possible. Scales should be digital or doctor’s scales and placed on a hard, flat surface. Note: analog scales are permitted but significantly increase the likelihood of an audit.
  • Kilograms, Pounds. Players may choose to weigh in kilograms or pounds. DietBet automatically harmonizes units for the purposes of calculating leaderboards and winners.

    Refunds

  • Players have up until day 7 of the game to receive a full refund. After the refund period has closed, exceptions may be made for players that have medical reasons for leaving the game. Documentation must be be provided to DietBet for verification purposes. No refunds will be made after the game ends. No exceptions.

    Winnings

  • Strict 48-Hour Window For Final Weigh-Ins. The timeframe to submit an official weigh-out begins at midnight following the final day of the dietbet (US Pacific Time). The weigh-out window lasts 48 hours. Players are prompted to enter their final weight during this window. Players claiming to have won must then prove their weight-loss to our Referees according to the Final Weigh-Ins (or “Weigh-Out”) process set forth above in rule 1.2. Once all weigh-out submissions have been reviewed, and winners certified, by DietBetter’s Referees, the game will be finalized and winners announced. Note: the process to finalize a game usually takes three days following the end of a dietbet and may take longer during weekends and holidays to give our Referees ample time to complete a thorough and fair review of all final weigh-in submissions. Once the game is finalized, winnings are distrubuted and no adjustments can be made to game results.
  • Goal Weight. The final weight required for a player to be deemed a winner is calculated as the player’s officially approved starting weight minus 4% of such weight.
  • Winning. Any player at or below his or her Goal Weight, based on an approved Weigh-Out, shall be deemed a winner unless any of the following conditions are true:
    • Their total weight loss is more than three times the difference between their starting weight and their target weight (i.e., a weight loss of more than 12%).
    • They have been removed by the Organizer or DietBet.
  • Disputes. Decisions by the DietBetter Referees shall be final.

    Unsafe and Unsportsmanlike Behavior

  • Age. You must be at least 18 years old to participate in a dietbet.
  • Body Mass Index (BMI). You must have at least an 18.5 BMI to participate in a dietbet. You will be asked to provide your height during the initial weigh-in. Also, if your BMI would fall below 18.5 after losing 4% of your starting weight, you will be unable to participate.
  • Prohibited Actions. Players caught engaging in prohibited actions shall be ejected from a dietbet at the sole discretion of DietBetter’s Referees. Ejected players shall not be entitled to a refund of any fees or bets. The following actions are prohibited:
    • Binging or hydration.
    • Purging (self-induced vomiting).
    • Excessive dehydration.
    • Engaging in weight-loss medical procedures during the course of the dietbet.
    • Any and all unsportsmanlike behaviors, as deemed by the DietBetter Referees.
    • Tampering with the measurement reported by the scale.

    Sportsmanship

  • Protect Civility. Social dieting is a wonderful and effective way to help people change their lives and improve their health. We aim to create a supportive environment that’s fun, safe, and uplifting. Like all communities, we run the risk that a few bad apples can ruin the experience for everyone. To this end, we ask our players not just to adhere to the following guidelines of good sportsmanship and decorum but also to help us enforce these standards of civility that bring out the best in us all:
    • No intentionally misrepresenting one’s weight.
    • No playing in bad faith (playing repeatedly in a manner of “hustling”).
    • No manipulating the dietbet, including colluding, betting on a dietbet you are not competing in, betting on someone other than yourself, betting on someone to lose, or otherwise interfering with the fair and natural course of the competition.
    • No harassment of players.
    • No embarrassment of players.
    • No disclosing confidential information such as the weight of a player.
    • No posting photos without permission of the subject or photographer.
    • No gaming of the system by creating multiple accounts, forging weigh-in photos, or attempting to manipulate the weigh-in process.
    • No business, product or self promotion posts in the games.

    Disclaimer and Indemnification

  • Know The Health Risks. Consult with a qualified healthcare provider before engaging in a dietbet. Losing weight can be risky in certain circumstances and we want to avoid injuries. Players assume all risks of their participation.
  • Play Smart. Don’t engage in a dietbet where you can’t safely lose the required weight in the required time, or when you cannot afford to lose the money that you’ve bet.
  • Keep It Legal. DietBetter does not permit use of its services in jurisdictions where such contests are illegal.
