They have high blood pressure, weak knees, diabetes, etc. I realized that I didn't want to end up like that. My husband is in the Air Force and stays physically fit. I didn't want to hold him back from doing anything. I want to be able to keep up with him on all the adventures we go on.
I decided to try DietBet because I liked the accountability it provides. I had to consistently weigh myself, work out, and make healthy eating choices. I don't like wasting my money, so I figured this was motivation to get it back.
Diet Bet worked for me because I was able to have fun losing weight while making money. I was able to get my friends to join me in challenges and compete with others, and compete with myself. This program works because it pushes you to keep yourself in check. You can have a cheat day, but get back on the wagon to continue your healthy lifestyle.
At first I was trying to not have all of the medical problems my relatives have, then I was trying to keep up physically with my husband when we go on vacations. Now, what motivates me is the fact that I have motivated so many others. I have friends and family members working out and watching what they eat because they were inspired by me.
I won almost $400 with DietBet and used it to go on a vacation to Las Vegas for my anniversary. My husband and I had the time of our lives and it was even sweeter that the money I won from losing weight paid it for. Plus, I was able to keep up with him!

I've always loved weight loss challenges and find them very motivating. Unfortunately, there were never any local ones that weren't attached to a weight loss program that I wasn't interested in using. Also, most challenges have 1-2 winners and the rest are financial losers. I loved how DietBet had you compete against yourself. Also, you only lose money if you don't lose the weight- not because someone else loses more than you.
I have tried several weight loss programs, which worked for a period of time, but required financial commitments, either weekly fees or by purchasing branded food. My weight loss plan, which includes DietBet and MyFitnessPal, doesn't cost me a dime and actually MAKES me money.
I love the confirmation that I made and achieved a realistic goal. And that I benefitted from this win, no matter how well or poorly the rest of the group did.
I like to say that DietBet is the perfect Weight Loss Trifecta- Eat Less, Move More, and DietBet! If you're a competitive person or need the support of a community, DietBet is the perfect solution. Commit to your goals and it will, literally, pay off!

As soon as he returned I gained all of it back plus some.
I decided to use DietBet after reading about it in a magazine article and then seeing another blurb about it on Facebook. It looked like a fun and supportive way to lose weight (and maybe win a little cash) in a community of people on the same journey!
I think that DB worked for me because it was a large community supporting each other online but I was able keep photos private and only share them if I felt confident enough to do so. It was nice to know that others were going through a lot of the same issues I was and to have the support and guidance of everyone and 'coaches’.
I really liked the social aspect of it. It was great meeting new friends and having the support of others. I also liked that I was able to keep myself accountable through the money incentive! I was so surprised by the amount of the payouts in the end! It was a very nice end result to all of my hard work!

I started DietBet because I was starting a new weight loss program for the umpteenth time, and I thought the more accountability the better. I always said if someone paid me to lose weight, I could do it, so I wanted to see if that was really true or not. For me it really did help with the motivation.
DietBet worked for me because it was simple, and worked well with the program I am on. It was great being able to communicate with like- minded people. I loved that you only had to lose 10% of your starting weight, I went way past that, but liked the simplicity of it as well, weigh-in once a month and take two pictures. It's easy and it works!

I'm a technology geek, always have been, but have gotten increasingly into nutrition over the years. I've been overweight since I was a kid, and went on my first diet in College, when I joined Weight Watchers. While it worked to get the weight off that time, like many other times the weight came back.
When I heard about DietBet, I immediately wanted to try it. After New Years a few of us participated in a 4-week game. I didn't want to stop my momentum after that one contest, and signed up for a 6-month game. While I didn't personally know anyone in that contest, I got to know some of the posters, and posted a lot of comments that I hope were helpful to others in encouraging them during the inevitable plateaus that all dieters encounter.
DietBet's ongoing stream of commenting and logging that you can see from everyone makes it feel like you are doing it as a group and seeing everyone else's struggles and triumphs along the way. You don't feel isolated and that you are doing something completely on your own. The money is a good motivator too, but it becomes less and less as the actual results of your loss become a reward themselves. Having a weekly raffle that can win you a nice little prize helps keep your eyes on the eventual winnings at the end of the six months.
I would recommend DietBet for anyone who needs to lose weight. I've always been a solitary dieter, but being able to do it with hundreds of virtual "buddies" even for me was very useful, and being able to have an added benefit of money was helpful too. The extra pocket change, especially when you can reinvest it in yourself either for new clothes (when your old ones get too big as mine did), or additional exercise equipment or gym memberships, can really be helpful!

During the treatment period, I developed additional complications and gained 75 lbs. Over the course of several years and lengthy period illness the weight was creating additional issues for me. In January, I had a medical episode that woke me up to the fact that I had to be proactive about changing my life and I had to be the one to find the path to a successful approach to healthy living.
I read an article about someone who had lost weight with DietBet. I realized I didn’t need information about how to lose weight as I already had all that information and refresh my memory by visiting my bookshelves or finding it online. What I did need was community support. DietBet combined 2 things that really work well for me. Being competitive and losing money. When I play, I play to win. This site brought it all together for me. Include the weekly accountability of using weigh in tokens.
There is something magical about the community support that one receives. Even though I probably will never meet those people in person I have made friends. It is not only that others encouraged me, but also that I was able to encourage others. When I started I asked a close friend if she wanted to do it as well. She declined. After I had lost about 30 lbs. she also started to join the same game I did. She is doing well in getting healthier as a result.

Though I was active, I was never fit. As I grew older, I learned how to dress my body to make it looks it's best, but I know you can only hide so much. It wasn't until I started looking into my family's health history that I really decided to make a change and stick to it. I became a vegetarian and began to look at what I was putting into my body.
I heard about DietBet through social media. I figured I'd give it a shot since if I won, then I would win my money back, possibly more. I won and it was great. I tried a couple more games and usually reached my goal. It didn't always happen, but even when I didn't win I still lost weight, so I still won.
I think DietBet works because of the encouragement of the other players and, of course, you can win your money back. The Daily Carrots remind you what you are doing and gives great encouragement, advice and info.

Withings first introduced me to DietBet; they invited me to a game. It was a pleasant experience. Losing weight is hard and doing it alone is even tougher. People in my life support me with my weight loss; however the support they are giving is not the same support as someone else trying to lose weight supporting you. These challenges proved a sense of comfort by letting you know that the people you are playing against are facing the same struggles as you, but they are still cheering you on to make your goal. DietBet challenges allowed me to be part of a worldwide team with the common goal.
What appeals the most to me about DietBet is the positive motivation you get from everyone and the connection you feel towards the other players. Yes, once in a while you will come across someone that is just out for the money, but most of the time it’s people facing the same struggles as you. The challenge to lose weight isn’t so bad when people facing the same struggles as you surround you and you are able to push them forward as they push you forward too.

My wife and I chose to use DietBet to aid our efforts because it adds a competitive edge to the process which makes it fun, and it really does a great job setting honest, fair goals that are tangible. I have occasionally tried to lose weight through better food choices and working out, but I definitely lacked structure in my approach. As such, I had pretty limited results in the past. I combined the positive aspects of DietBet with, what I believe, is a healthy approach to weight-loss that can be sustained for the rest of my life and I began to see great results. I would encourage everyone who's looking to make a change to give DietBet a try. It was such a good tool in the fight because it kept me honest. I needed to be good, even when I felt like cheating, because that weigh-in was coming up soon! I think that it's also great that you can do this in a community type environment, which breeds’ encouragement and also an open forum to discuss roadblocks. Willpower and planning are the things that will get the weight off of your body; DietBet really does a great job promoting both for its participants.

My husband and I are also currently working on opening a microbrewery locally and our love of beer turned into a "weighty issue" following our wedding in September 2012. I have a lot going on and realized that I had allowed my weight to get to a point that was not healthy for me and was hindering me from doing all of the things I wanted to do. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism approximately 2.5 years ago and had convinced myself that my weight was something I could fix. In December 2013, I was at my heaviest, 205 pounds and tore my meniscus. I realized that if I wanted to enjoy life, I needed to get healthy.
I think something that made DietBetter effective for me was having several groups to hold me accountable. I soon found the competitive side of me kicked in and I was really just competing against myself, and that number on the scale. Once I could exercise more, my husband and I realized that what we enjoyed most was just spending time together with our dog, simply walking. He soon joined a DietBet too! Through eating less, and walking more, he is now down 46 pounds! So together we have lost over 90 pounds this year!
I enjoyed reading about other people's success as well as their struggles. When I was struggling I would post on my games at time and ask for encouragement, and never once did my game groups leave me hanging. They usually said exactly what I needed to hear and provided me the support I needed to keep going.
I can't believe the differences I see in myself today. I went from a size 14/16 to a 6/8. It blows my mind to think about how far I have come since March!

I chose DietBet to keep me accountable. I'm the money manager in my household and like to keep a tight leash on it. I was horrified the day I stood on the scale and discovered I weighed more than I thought I would ever weigh in my life.
I've personally tried South Beach, Weight Watchers, did a short stint trying Atkins, and read almost every book on nutrition and food that is in the marketplace. I'm a fitness instructor now with the City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department. Even with my level of activity, my weight is still an issue. I looked around, and ran across DietBet after being on Jillian Michaels website. After my first game I was hooked.
DietBet makes me focus on ME! I'm internally motivated, and I thrive on a good challenge. And, of course, hugely important to me--DietBet is not selling anything. There are no judgments made as to which plan to follow--and there's no bashing of any major plan. It’s a place where we can all come together, without regard for food plans or fitness plans, and simply play a game.
I can't even guess how many folks I've referred to DietBet. I honestly think it's the best thing "out there". I just wish I had thought of the idea myself!

When I looked to the 18 months in front of me, I decided I didn't want to be an obese bride. Something needed to be done. However, I knew I needed an external incentive to stick with weight loss. I have tried to lose weight many times before and would initially be successful, but I would invariably run out of steam. I would find myself backsliding into my old, unhealthy habits.
With DietBet, I was incentivized to stay on track. This time, I began a low-carb diet but needed extra incentive to say no when people would offer me delicious desserts, warm bread, or a pint of beer. DietBet gave me that incentive.
I've tried many diets in the past. You name it, I've tried it! And like I said, I was successful with all of them--in the short term. But I would lose motivation and return to my previous habits.
DietBet forced me to weigh in weekly. It became part of my Sunday routine. Knowing this routine was going to happen every Sunday helped me forge good habits in the first few months of this weight loss journey. It was also a boost to win money each month!

I loved food and turned to it for emotional issues, which there were many. My turning point was when my blood pressure soared and my doctor said I was really unhealthy. I researched and tried many things and the secret that worked was to change my beliefs, values and actions about food, exercise and stress. DietBetter helped with that because it was a fun game and it kept me on track and thinking about my goal again when there were distractions in my life.
I entered the Gold's Gym weight loss contest and they don't check in every week so I thought combining that contest with DietBet would give me the weekly motivation to keep on my healthy weight loss. I liked weighing in each week because it kept me on my toes and focused and reading others comments gave me the support to stick with it.
If you are thinking of trying DietBetter definitely do the six-month and buy the weigh in tokens and join a couple other games. You will be continually focused and thinking about your weight loss goals.

I was intrigued at the thought of winning money and having an outside source of accountability and support. I wanted to lose weight not only for my upcoming wedding, but for my health! I've been overweight/borderline obese (by BMI standards) for most of my life. I wanted to take responsibility for my appearance, health, and the way I felt on a day-to-day basis. My goal wasn't so much to be a certain size, but to improve my fitness level to something I could feel good about.
I have lost weight a few times over the years, but have always gained it back. I generally would start watching what I ate and working out, but once I became satisfied with my progress, I'd slowly revert back to my old ways - and old weight. I still have more weight to lose, and even when I reach my goal, I plan on continuing to participate in DietBets in order to maintain.
DietBetter has worked for me most importantly because of the amazing support of the group I found - Fitness Warriors. I just picked a group randomly but I'm so glad I picked them! They have been such an incredible source of support, motivation, and positivity. I do not believe I would have lost the weight without that. Secondly, having a bet on the line helps engage my sense of competitiveness!
I think DietBet gives you a nice way to visualize and track your progress. Without DietBet, I wouldn't have taken body photos or recorded my weight as regularly. Without that constant 'checking in' it's easy to ignore yourself slipping. DietBet helped keep me focused on my goal.
The part of the game that I like the best is having a whole new place full of supportive people who are struggling with the same things I am.
Do not hesitate to join DietBet. You can control the amount of money you want to bet. No one is going to try and sell you anything. You will, however, make some new friends. You'll probably start to feel better about yourself. You'll hopefully get healthier. You might even make some money! But - I honestly don't even think about that part. What I think about is how much better I feel and how much happier I am because of that.

I saw that it was really possible to lose weight. I wanted to lose weight safely and naturally. I started researching on my own, what to do. I downloaded the myfitnesspal app and I use that for tracking my calories and keeping track of what I ate.
I heard about DietBetter on Instagram. One of the users that I follow started a bet of her own and was trying to get people on board. I kept checking the page, watching the pot grow. I won my first bet and was hooked after that. Anytime I gain a few pounds and know I need to cut back, I join a dietbet4 and lose it. It holds me accountable and helps keep me motivated! I have done 2 of the 6-month Transformers and am in the last round of my third. It’s been great to see/hear from the same users for 6 months. There is a sense of community and camaraderie that I love and can't find anywhere else! I have won the battle against obesity, thanks in large part, to DietBetter. Having money on the line spurs me on! You get to know people who are in the same boat as you are. You find out you aren't alone in your struggles and it’s great!

I believe Dietbetter worked for me for a few different reasons. It made me try something different to lose weight because I didn’t want to be out of my money. The goal was obtainable, 4% is easily obtained when you weigh so much over. I like the competition the best!

One day on Pinterest I saw a link to DietBet and was intrigued. I thought, “a sure bet is not guaranteed unless it is on yourself” so I decided to give it a shot. DietBet kept me on track even when I felt like giving up. There’s something about self-competition that enabled me to keep striving for my goals, and the money was fun and encouraging too!
I have done around 4 diet bets since March of 2013, one being a six month “transformation” bet. I have lost once, but never let that happen again. I am the type of person that thrives when setting concrete goals for myself. The DietBet program has helped me in that way as it’s helped motivate me to continue losing weight.
I recommend DietBet to anyone who is looking to make a change for a healthier lifestyle or even just to shed a couple pounds. I have yet to find a confidence booster greater than knowing I completed a weight loss goal, and DietBet provides that feeling monthly. I still have about 10 more pounds to lose and I know I will be using DietBet to get me there.

I found DietBetter through a fitness blog I follow. The blogger had set up a game and I decided to join since I was already trying to lose weight. The game was starting two weeks later so I decided to join one that was starting right away as well so that I could see how it worked. I liked the idea of having money on the line as a motivator. I heard about DietBetter through a friend of a friend and decided to give it a try. I was 3 months postpartum and I was ready to kick the baby weight! I figured DietBetter was something I could use to revitalize my motivation.
After completing my first DietBet, I knew it was something I could be successful with. I had the accountability with the weigh ins, the support of a group if I needed extra encouragement with the activity feed if I needed it, a winner's purse if I was successful and of course the drive of pure competition! I can be as involved I want; a mere observer or an active participant in discussions and the typical sharing of a social media site, and that I could keep my weigh-ins confidential until I was at a place where I was comfortable sharing my weight.

I signed up for a transformer game and paid for the entire 6 months and really didn’t want to lose all that money. I signed up with someone else and we were really supportive of each other and encouraging so I wasn’t in it alone.
I found that it wasn’t just about the weight, it was about getting enough sleep and exercising and changing my eating habits. Once I started doing all three I found success. It takes a long time to get that all in place so it is important to have encouragement from others trying to do the same thing and sharing what works for them. The reminders for weighing in weekly were really helpful.

I've been maintaining my weight loss for over a year now, and I've started lifting weights, so I have some new fitness goals to achieve. I think the competitive nature of DietBet is what made it work for me, particularly as I did more games--I made it a goal to never have to pay any new money into a game. Part of that was due to muscle gain when I started lifting but most of which was fat from eating too much. After 8 months of DietBetting, I'm down over 60 lbs, took 7 inches off my waist and am approaching the weight I was at when I was 14 years old. My wife found the site, and since we both needed to lose weight, wanted to do it together. She thought it would appeal to my competitive side, and she was right. It helped that it was presented in a game format, that it had a competitive element and that it had money on the line. I think the biggest thing that made it work for me was that I realized that my weight was under my control; there was some set of actions I could take that would result in my victory. I could only lose if I defeated myself by failing to take those actions. With money on the line, I found defeat inexcusable, so I figured out a plan to win and executed on it repeatedly. If you're competitive, need to lose weight and refuse to lose when money is on the line, do it. Like they say, its not gambling; you have a large amount of control over your weight by the actions you take, so you can win if you want it badly enough.

I put on 60 pounds in the 4 years that followed, in large part because I had 24/7 pains. I realized I really HAD to get the surgery; but then, after recovering from spine, shoulder (and a much-later unrelated abdominal surgery), I found I STILL couldn't drop that much weight at a stretch. Diet alone didn't do it. Exercise alone didn't do it. I'd lose a chunk but lose my motivation and focus after a time. I knew what was required, and understood what I needed to do with eating and exercise, but couldn't seem to marry sufficient sustained motivation with the long-term effort required. Weight Watchers was informative but far too expensive over the long run, and group meetings didn't provide the kind of person-to-person interactions that really worked for me, personally. And I just saw the money draining away again and again, week after week. I was desperate to find something that worked. I also know that I'm motivated by competition ... I find that measuring myself against (and with) others' progress is a primary motivator that helps me stay on track. So, I was excited to find DietBetter!
DietBetter provided me with the combination of motivators that actually worked. First, it allowed me to tie in MyFitnessPal app on my iPhone for tracking food intake and exercise calories. Second, it provided me with a community of fellow travelers on this path, whom I could support and who supported me -- and frankly, that also provided me with an element of competition that I thrive on. Just as important, DietBetter provided a serious monetary incentive -- the promised reward of gaining back my entire investment to participate, and even more, if I succeeded. It just made sense -- monetarily, motivationally, and technically. The combination was what it took.

I gained 60 pounds with my pregnancy and with a lack of sleep and exercise as well as bad eating habits for the first 9 months of my son’s life I found myself at my highest weight ever, 205 pounds. I tried finding the motivation to get back to eating healthy and exercising, as I was accustomed to prior to my pregnancy. Because I had been in shape in the past, I knew what I needed to do to lose weight; I just couldn’t find that motivation.
It changed for me at the end of March 2014, when a group of friends decided to start a DietBet. I had never heard of DietBetter so I was interested in learning more. I started with a 4-week bet and I was instantly motivated. I don’t know if it was more wanting to win or not wanting to fail in front of others but it ignited a spark in me. I knew once I got started and seen the weight coming off it would keep me going. I not only won my first DietBet but I lost 13 pounds doing it, double win. After I won my first DietBet I wanted to keep that motivation going so I joined several more 4-week bets. About every two weeks I would start a new one. Then I decided to try a 6-month DietBet, I liked it so much that I joined 2 more.
I like DietBet games because you not only get a chance to make some cash you are also losing weight which is a win-win for me. You get a lot of support from others who are in the same situation as you are so they can relate to your struggles and temptations. I have recommended friends to join a DietBet if they are lacking some motivation or need a little support along their weight loss journey or if they just want to make a little extra cash. For me it’s the best $25 bet I’ve ever made because I not only got my money back plus some, I got my life back.

I used to be athletic but, I gained 70 lbs. with my first pregnancy, putting me over 200 lbs. at age 30. I had started my weight loss journey Dec 31, 2012. I found inspiring Facebook pages/groups and 4 months later one of them did a DietBet. I thought it sounded interesting and wanted to try it! I loved it and have done several since! I had a great host for my first game! That's huge! To have such great updates and participation! Loved the ease of using the site And SEEING the progress!! And getting a little cash back for something I was doing anyways! I can't pinpoint one thing that I like the most…I like the updates, the graphics, the visual progress, that the pic/weight can remain private, the sense of community and support that you get from hosts and other players!!! It is NOT a competition-- we all WANT to win and want each other to succeed, too! If you are thinking of trying a DietBet at least give it a try. Especially if it’s a host that you follow or are inspired by. There are all different starting costs, so it can be low or as high as you're willing to pay!

Was talented and dedicated enough that I competed all four years at the state level in track and won state high jump my sr. year. I modeled my 20’s into my early 30’s.
In my early 30's I entered into a relationship and eventually married an individual that brought much turmoil into my life, which eventually ended in divorce. Through this time, following, my last pregnancy, I was also diagnosed with Graves Disease/thyroid issues and went through an Iodine Radiation Process that "killed" my thyroid. This was the beginning of my fight against food and finding my way through many, many changes in regard to nutrition. The turmoil of this bad relationship added to the depression I felt with my new struggles with my weight and my struggles with my self-confidence. I have yo-yo'd through my late 30's up until the beginning of this year. New Year's eve was a defining turning point for me. I was weighing 165 (more than I ever weighed through pregnancy). I could not fit into any dress.
Mentally, I was ready to lose the weight. I started my first weighing in at 165. My competitive nature kicked back in towards reaching and maintaining goals. I chose to prevail as I had as an athlete in my younger years
Summer is a challenge as I love to boat with my husband, family, friends and socialize however, I am looking forward to signing back up with DietBetter in September to reach my goal of 120 and who knows, maybe start competing again or model again. Thanks for the motivation. Inch by inch I have been regaining myself, and the self-confidence that follows in knowing I am taking care of me. I am now a much healthier me in many ways.

I worked as a freelance filmmaker out of college, ate poorly, lots of fast food, but was somewhat active. I changed careers in 1998 and became much more sedentary and started gaining weight.I did Weight Watchers for a while and had some success. I could drop 15-20 pounds but would gain it back pretty quickly as soon as bad habits returned. At the end of 2012, I was hanging around 300 pounds and fed up.
I was on Facebook is late August and my wife’s cousin had posted a Labor Day challenge. He had done a couple of DietBet’s with success and started his own game. That was my first Dietbet. I lost 12 lbs in that challenge and he followed it up with a Halloween challenge. I think I would stop playing over the holidays but it was too late, I was addicted to Dietbet. It works because I don’t like to lose. I will give up a lazy Sunday afternoon and go ride my bike 30 miles because I need to burn the calories. My Transformer ends in May and my final weight for that is 217 lbs. I have no doubt that is achievable.
I haven’t weighed this little since high school. I think the social aspect mixed with my desire to not lose money is why Dietbet works. 4% is a very doable monthly goal, the regular weigh-ins keep you focused, and seeing other people log their activity motivates me to keep moving. If you are serious about losing weight and want to have fun doing it, Dietbet is the way to go.

As I approached my 49th birthday in January of 2013 I thought that if I ever wanted to be thin it was now or never. I felt like I had tried everything.
I learned about DietBetter through Chris Powell’s Facebook page. I am very focused on my next DietBetter goal of 177 by 06/24 and I have a personal goal of 172 by 07/04/14--that’s 100 lbs. I am counting the down 1 by 1 on my Facebook page. I like DietBetter because it gives you a final weigh in date and a number you must achieve by that day, unlike Weight Watchers, where you just weigh in weekly. Little goals are a great concept and are easier said than done. DietBetter does it for you automatically. I view a kickstarter as a sprint and a transformer as a marathon. Thus far I have been in one transformer, which ends in August, and numerous kickstarters. I have won every bet.
Why do I win every bet? Losing is not an option. I am betting against myself. It strikes me this is something completely within my control. My favorite things about DietBetter are the specific dates to reach goals by and the fact that small goals really add up. To anyone thinking about trying DietBetter you should do it!

I was at my highest weight when a co-worker introduced me to the world of weight loss. During the early days of my journey I learned the importance of inspiration and support from friends and family. This is one of the reasons I love DietBet! The encouragement of friends and family allowed me to lose over 50lbs before graduating and meeting my husband. Through exercise and adjusting my diet I’ve been able to manage some of my PCOS symptoms. This past August I started a Doctorate program and decided that running and eating healthy would help me manage the extra stress. In November I joined my first DietBet as part of a wellness imitative for work and I’ve been hooked ever since. I’ve lost 66lbs since last June, 34lbs of that since November through DietBets! I decided to use DietBet for weight loss because there is community support and an incentive. I can talk with my DietBet group when I need diet and exercise advice or words of support. I also do better when there is challenge and the incentive makes me work harder to reach my goal. I need to be held accountable, and having money on the line does that for me. Even when it’s a small amount. It makes me think twice before slacking! It also a great excuse to get out of temptations. When others ask me to eat things I shouldn’t they don’t continue to pressure me when I tell them there’s money on the line. Dietbet is a great support group and motivator for weight loss, but watch out it’s addictive!

After badly hurting my ankle, I was sent to a orthopedic surgeon to have surgery to reconnect the tendons in my foot, plus fix the bone spurs that were causing me a great deal of pain. As an obese mom, weighing in at 243 pounds, it was tough to manage all of this. It was at that moment that I decided to start losing weight for myself.
In February, my sister challenged me to try out this new site she had found called DietBet. Honestly, I was hesitant. I thought it was going to be the biggest joke, and I'm a bit untrusting of internet sites that I don't know. But, she pushed me hard enough that I signed up for a game that she started. The community feel of the group was incredible. Everyone was so supportive and encouraging. Everyone was rooting for one another and pushing them to get out and be fit.
In the past, I had tried so many things to get rid of the extra weight. I tried meal replacement shakes, a very low (and unhealthy) calorie restriction, counting calories, etc. The reason I believe Dietbet worked for me is because simply, money talks. I didn't want to risk losing my $25. I'm very competitive so there was no way I was losing that bet. There were days I didn't feel like working out but knowing that could make a difference between the scale budging or not made me get up and move.
The thing I liked best about the games was that everyone is cheering you on. And it's only 4% that you have to lose, based on your OWN body weight. And I love that there are restrictions that you cannot lose over 12% so it makes sure people are losing the healthy way, not trying to shed that weight all overnight.
For those looking at trying out a Dietbet, do it! Honestly, what do you have to lose? Money is motivating, the community is supportive and all that can come out of this is you trying to be a better you!

It is hard and sometimes it can be really hard, but it is undeniably worth it. I played DIetBet with my coworkers and found it very motivating because I was accountable to other people that I saw every day. I did not want to lose in front of them. Having short term goals made the whole process of losing so much weight more manageable for me. After a few games it all added up.
The DietBets kept me on the right track during hard moments, and reinforced my smaller goals which kept me motivated. I used My Fitness Pal and a Body Media armband to help me win. It’s a really great way to know others are in it with you. Plus you get to buy something cute to wear with your winnings once you are done.

That kept me motivated through each DietBet.
I liked that DietBet kept me motivated, and it was an attainable goal. The short time frame keeps you from putting things off. I was able to focus more with DietBet as well. For anyone thinking of trying DietBet if you are the slightest bit competitive, go for it!! You won’t be disappointed.

During that time I've lost over 130 lbs, which was gained during my 2 pregnancies by eat fast food daily (or multiple times a day) and quickly found myself over 300 lbs. It was in December of 2011 that I finally took the first step to lose the weight for good. December 28th was the day a friend ask me to join a popular weight loss program that has you tracking points. That same day I started my blog, treadmillrunway.com. I quickly figured out the weight loss program wasn't for me and I ventured out on my own.
I joined my first DietBet while I was also in another weight loss competition at my gym. Online support communities have played a big role in my success and the DietBet community is no different. Money is a big motivator for me. DietBet is a one time payment that you can earn back and has constant support. What's not to love! I've tried programs like WeightWatchers which as I began to have a better understanding of food and nutrition realized it wasn't for me anymore. It was a good place to start but I quickly out grew the program.
DietBet works for me because it keeps me from getting to comfortable and the games provide a great sense of motivation and community. I'm competitive so I love being in competition with myself to meet that goal. Having money on the line, even just a small amount is a great motivator for me. The other reason it works for me is it's SIMPLE. 28 days, 4% to lose, nothing fancy. I like interacting with the other players, trading tips and recipes, sharing struggles and motivations. Despite it being about winning money from people who don't meet their goals the community is very open and supportive of others. If you share your struggles someone will always be there to support you. If you are thinking about trying DietBet, do it. No, seriously, what have you got to lose besides some weight! If you're serious and committed you don't need to worry about losing your money, chances are you'll make a few bucks!

I knew I wasn’t done with my weight loss journey, but was finding it hard to stay motivated.
In May of 2013 I found out about DietBet through a friend on Facebook. When I went to the site to look around I was intrigued. While I had participated in weight loss contests before it had always been high stakes and winner take all. I really liked that with DietBet everyone has a chance at being a winner! I also liked the 4% body weight goal because while it is attainable you have to stay focused to ensure that you make the goal by the end of four weeks. After signing up for my first DietBet and winning I participated in 4 additional bets to help me stay motivated in my weight loss attempts. It worked! I won all of those bets as well. I lost an additional 21.5 pounds with DietBet bringing my total weight loss to 40 pounds and I am thrilled!
I think that DietBet worked for me because it gave me accountability and support. The accountability was really important. I knew that I had to step on the scale at the end of the bet and I didn't want to lose my money! The support from the other players in the game helped me as well. Thank you DietBet for helping me achieve my goals!

I have tried Weight Watchers, MediFast, and a food journal, and while I lost weight at first, I ended up gaining it all back. The structure of the games gave me the freedom to choose the best route for achieving my goal. I had gained about 46 pounds while pregnant with my son, and I still wanted to lose some weight from my previous pregnancy. I couldn’t wait to start DietBet and joined shortly after my son was born. While I have always enjoyed working out, I found it difficult to get back into the swing of things, having two children under the age of 2 and recovering from both pregnancies. I found it to be especially difficult with the second pregnancy due to illness. I feel like DIetBet worked for me because you have a metric to measure your success. I found the short term goals and the ability to compare photos and numbers motivating. I also like that DietBet makes you accountable, it is helpful having to get back on track instead of throwing in the towel and losing control because there is the motivation of winning. I also found that DietBet has an extremely supportive online community.
As far as what I like best in the game, who doesn't love getting paid to lose weight? No, seriously though, it's great to have trackable progress. For anyone thinking of trying DietBet what do you have to lose? 6 pounds or $20?
